Made to measure tweed wedding suits from Aidan Sweeney

Tweed suits are very popular for weddings, and it is always a great pleaure to provide customers with a made to measure tweed suit for their big day.

A made to measure tweed suit is a very stylish option for a wedding. We have many tweeds for you to chose from, including Magee Donegal tweed, Harris tweed, and Ettrick Sporting tweed. Donegal tweed includes the traditional herringbone and salt and pepper tweed patterns. A variety of different size checks and over-checks and a range of colours from muted to bold is available.

The groom and his party can select fabrics which compliment each other but are distinctly different, so individual tastes and styles can be accommodated while giving an overall "tweed look" to the wedding.

Happy 90th Birthday, Mrs Sweeney!

My mother, Mrs Sweeney, celebrated her 90th birthday today. She is not usually one for celebrating birthdays, but this year has been different. There has been a stream of wellwishers visiting the shop throughout the day, and she has really enjoyed meeting so many friends again.

Mother still works in the shop 6 days a week, and has no thoughts of retirement. As well as specialising in our ladies underwear, she plays a vital role in the administration and packing of our internet and telephone orders. 

We're both very grateful to all the customers and other friends who have sent cards, telephoned, called in, given flowers and chocolates, and marked her special day in so many ways. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness - it is much appreciated.

Call in to see us on your way to the Brecon Beacons Food Festival

Many of you know that our shop is in Brecon's historic Market Arcade, which leads to the Market Hall. This whole area will be a hive of activity on Saturday 4th October as the Brecon Beacons Food Festival comes to town.

Over 70 food and drink producers from Wales and nearby will be exhibiting. The Festival runs from 10am to 5pm. It is a great way of raising awareness of the wonderful local produce that's available, and a wonderful chance for visitors to sample Welsh food and drink while finding out more about it from the producers. 

The Brecon Beacons Food Festival is based in the Market Hall, right next to us - so do call in to see us on your way past!

Made to measure suit for a very tall man

Unusual made to measure requirements are an interesting challenge - and I was delighted to hear from a customer who is 6 feet 8 inches tall with a 48 chest.

Christopher was keen to have a made to measure tweed suit for his forthcoming wedding. Having learnt of my made to measure services via my website, he got in touch and we discussed the possibilities. Confident that we could help, Christopher travelled from Cardiff to my shop in Brecon to look at various fabrics and styling options and for me to take his measurements and assess his needs.

With a large man such as Christopher, what's so important is the length of jacket and sleeves as well as the overall look. He was delighted with the results.

Our red spotted handkerchiefs at the World Championships!

Our red spotted hankies or scarves recently made their annual appearance at the World Pilot Gig Championships in the Scilly Isles, courtesy of our friends at the Clevedon Pilot Gig Club, near Bristol. The red spotted handkerchiefs are part of the uniform for the crews. As the photo shows, they can be used variously as neckerchiefs, scarves, and bandanas!

We were delighted to receive an update from Richard James, Secretary of the Clevedon Pilot Gig Club (below), and wish the club continued success as they increase their membership and crews. It's great to be associated with such a thriving club, and we look forward to welcoming club members to our shop in Brecon whenever they're in our area and feel like popping in to say "Hello"!

"As in previous years I am attaching a photo of Clevedon Pilot Gig Club's latest expedition to the World Pilot Gig Championships in the Scilly Isles in May.  Once again we took nearly 80 rowers and supporters with 13 teams, Mens and Ladies, competing in the racing heats over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.  We are gradually climbing the Championship table, with our Mens A team now 42nd (from 138). The Team Photo shows the members resplendent in their red Somerset Wurzel scarves courtesy of Aidan Sweeney and the group of youngsters sat in front of the gig will be our rowers of the future."

Made to measure meeting in Hong Kong

We recently had a report of two of our customers meeting in Hong Kong - with one complimenting the Aidan Sweeney made to measure jacket worn by the other!

The two gentlemen did not previously know each other, but met by chance. One (from Guernsey) was wearing an Aidan Sweeney made to measure jacket, and the other (from Brecon) made an admiring comment about it. "It's from Aidan Sweeney," said the owner. "Aidan Sweeney in the Market Arcade in Brecon?" asked the other. And indeed it was - with both men astonished at the coincidence.

Wolsey/Morley Grip Tops - more stock has arrived

We're pleased to say that Grip Top socks are now back in stock. It's been worth the wait for the delivery from Wolsey/Morley, as these socks remain very popular with our customers. We have emailed people we know were waiting for Grip Tops.

Charcoal, navy blue, rustic brown, and lovat green Grip Tops are available in UK shoe sizes 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12. The only size not available at the moment is charcoal in 9-10.
