Red and white spotted handkerchiefs in starring role with Emilia Fox and Mercedes

Our red spotted handkerchiefs have been in the limelight again. They had a starring role in a Mercedes publicity film alongside Emilia Fox and the fabulous Mercedes Gullwing SLS AMG.

The opportunity arose through previous customer Sue Caldwell, a producer at creative agency PENCIL. She got in touch with an urgent order for a dozen red spotted handkerchiefs. They were needed as part of the costumes for The Scenic Route, a love story starring the Mercedes Gullwing and Emilia Fox - and filming was due to start!

We immediately dispatched the spotty handkerchiefs to PENCIL by Special Delivery so they arrived in time for filming. Sue emailed us to say "Thank you so much for responding after hours, such wonderful personal service."

Rob Halloway, PR Manager for Mercedes-Benz UK described The Scenic Route as "a fantastic film ... full of character and fun". We were delighted to help out, and much enjoyed PENCIL's impressive creative work with Mercedes and our red spotted handkerchiefs.

Red spotted neckerchiefs by Royal Command (nearly!)

Our red spotted neckerchiefs/handkerchiefs are part of the crew uniform of the members of Clevedon Pilot Gig Club, near Bristol. The Club were invited to row in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames recently - so we were glued to the television trying to spot them in action!

The crews - and their red spotted neckerchiefs/bandanas - are pictured with their gigs Blackbird and Watch and Pray at the 2012 World Pilot Gig Championships at St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly. The club is flourishing and is hoping to acquire a third gig soon.  

We've been delighted to help club secretary Richard James, and appreciate his comment that "It has been a particular pleasure to discover that there is a business such as yours which still works on the basis of good old-fashioned courtesy and service. Long may you reign!" He added: " Membership is continuing to grow apace so I am certain we will be requiring a further order from you in the not too distant future."

It's lovely to see our red spotted handkerchiefs put to a variety of uses, and we wish our friends in Clevedon - proudly wearing our neckerchiefs/bandanas - all the best with their Gig Club.

Men's Tattersall check shirts from Viyella now available to order online

Viyella Tattersall check men's shirts are popular in our shop in Brecon and are now available to buy online. Viyella is a famous British brand and these shirts are long-time favourites. For casual or more formal wear, whatever the season, these cotton/wool mix shirts have a place in every gentleman's warbrobe.

Tattersall check shirts have a structured collar which means they look smart whether worn with a tie or without a tie. The olive check (shown on the right in the photo above) goes well with country colours. It suits green or brown cords, or cavalry twill trousers. The plum check (on the left above) looks good with navy or red corduroys. It can also be worn more formally with a navy blazer.

The natural fibres mean these shirts feel cool in summer but also give warmth in cooler weather. They can be worn year-round: add a jacket or jumper in colder weather, or wear without an extra layer in warmer weather.

Not long until Fathers Day - but still time to find a lovely gift

Green braces available in wide clip and leather ends, up to size XXL

Green braces are now available in our range of extra strong, wide clip braces. Leather end braces (or button braces) too are now in stock in green.

These green braces add to our existing popular colours of navy blue, grey, and wine (burgundy). In British racing green, they are a great match for country outfits such as tweeds and corduroys.

The wide clip braces grip firmly and really are extra strong - a recent customer told us "the quality of the item is outstanding - I could probably tow my car with them!"

Leather end braces (also known as button braces) are the traditional style that fit onto buttons in the trouser waistband. With genuine leather runners, these won't come adrift either.

Wide clip braces and leather end braces come in navy blue, grey, and wine (burgundy) as well as the new green. Leather end braces or button braces for trousers - what do you call them?

Braces are one of our specialities. They include braces with leather ends which attach to buttons inside trouser waistbands - sometimes called button braces. The leather ends are also known as leather runners. Whatever you call them, we know what you mean, and we have them in stock!

Wide button braces with leather ends are great for everyday use and for workwear. They stay attached, have wide straps that are comfortable and secure, and come in practical navy, wine, and grey.

Narrow button braces with leather ends are also available in navy, wine (burgundy) and grey. These narrower braces go well with suits, with the colours complementing a range of business suits.

For the ultimate in button braces, try Albert Thurston's wool boxcloth braces with leather ends (shown in the photograph above). These are a British classic with handstitched leather fittings in fine goatskin. They are supplied with a set of 6 buttons, so you can add these to your trousers if they do not already have buttons. The red and gold braces certainly make a bold statement, while the green and wine (burgundy) braces blend in with tweeds or dark suits.
