Suits and celebrations: the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth

Today is the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth. He was a perceptive social commentator, and - at a time when menswear was evolving into a recognisably modern jacket, trousers, shirt and waistcoat - had quite a few things to say about men's clothing.

The importance of looking the part in a new suit is emphasised in Pip's visit to Mr Trabbs the tailor in Great Expectations. Pip was a little disappointed with his suit - but then he didn't have the benefit of our made to measure service or our Magee Personal Tailoring service to ensure a perfect fit.

In the same book, Joe's comment that "I'm wrong in these clothes" acknowledges the value of feeling right in your outfit, whatever event you are attending. That's where our menswear hire comes in handy for special occasions such as weddings. Phone us on 01874 623613 to chat about all the options in morning wear, evening wear, suits, and accessories available for you so you look and feel your best for your big day.

"How spruce you are" says Mr Pinch of Mark in Martin Chuzzlewit.  Not a suit this time, but a coat accessorised with a "loose red neckcloth". We can help there too: our large red spotted handkerchiefs and Paisley patterned handkerchiefs spruce up casual and semi-formal outfits - Dickensian or otherwise - with a very stylish touch.
