Q. Who is Aidan Sweeney?

A. I own and run my long-established, high-quality family business in the market town of Brecon in Wales, UK. I have over 40 years experience as a traditional gentlemen's outfitter specialising in top quality classic made to measure menswear, ladies underwear, and traditional household items.

Q. Where are you based?

A. I have traded from my shop in Brecon's Market Arcade since 1986. Brecon is in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park and easily accessible by road from Wales, the south and west of England, The Cotswolds, and the west Midlands. This is a traditional shop furnished with antique fixtures and fittings. Please visit if you can - we would be delighted to see you. This map shows how to find us.

Q. How do I contact you?

A. By phone, by e-mail, by post, or in person at the shop in Brecon.

  • Phone: If you have a question or would like to discuss your order, telephone us during opening hours: Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5pm (early closing Wednesday 1pm). Out of these hours, leave a message giving your phone number and a preferred time when you would prefer us to phone you back.
Our shop phone number is 01874 623613.
  • E-mail: You can e-mail us at info@aidansweeney.co.uk.

Q. What do you sell?

A. We specialise in:

  • High quality menswear including traditional made to measure suits, shirts, Donegal tweed sports jackets, trousers, and coats, plus accessories such as men's braces. Brands include Magee, Jockey, Dents, Meyer, Olney Headwear, High Cross, Sunspel, Viyella, HJ Socks, Seidensticker, Peter England, Somax pyjamas and nightshirts, Anatomic Gel shoes and boots, and Douglas & Grahame.
  • Ladies' underwear and men's underwear (including Sloggi briefs in sizes 10-32, and Triumph Doreen bras from 34-48 and up to cup size K). We supply large sizes of Sloggi, Triumph, and Jockey that are rarely available elsewhere.
  • Unusual household items e.g. large feather bolster pillows, oilcloth tablecloths, traditional cotton roller towels and range towels for Agas and Rayburns.
Q. Do you sell online?

A. Yes, we have an online shop. Other items that are not available online can still be sent to you. Contact us by phone, by email, by post, or visit the shop in Brecon to discuss what you are interested in or to place your order. We aim to dispatch items in stock within 2 working days of processing your order. If you need something urgently, let us know. If there is a possibility of a delay we will tell you before confirming your order. Delivery is usually between 4 to 7 working days. For men's made to measure, personal appointments can be made at a time to suit you, including outside shop hours. If you cannot come to the shop, I can often travel to you.

Q. Who will deal with my order?

A. I deal with most customers myself and personally attends to all men's made to measure orders. Mrs Sweeney specialises in ladies' Sloggi and Triumph underwear and can discuss your requirements with you confidentially. Personal service is our hallmark. This is a family business run by a small and dedicated team.

Q. I need clothing in an unusual size - do you stock extra-small/extra-large?

A. We specialise in supplying customers with unusual sized items and can usually provide whatever sizes you need. For example, Sloggi ladies' underwear can be supplied in every size from 10 to 32, and Triumph Doreen bras from bust size 34 to 48 and up to cup size K. Sometimes unusual sizes take a few days longer to deliver as they are ordered for you. Please phone or e-mail if you would like to find out more, or call at the shop in Brecon.

Q. I am interested in made-to-measure clothes - can you help?

A. Of course. Click on our Made to Measure page to see some of our wide range of top quality traditional men's suits, jacket, trousers, shirts and coats. Brands supplied include Bernhardt and Magee. As well as Made to Measure, we offer Magee Personal Tailoring for garments made to your individual measurements from a range of styles. Contact us by telephone or e-mail or, even better, call at the shop to find out more, see our extensive range, and discuss what you might like. Personal appointments for measuring and fitting made to measure items can be booked at a time to suit you, including out of shop hours, for made to measure and personal tailoring. If you cannot come to the shop, I can often travel to you.

Q. I'm not sure what size clothing I need - can you help?

To start with, have a look at our Measurement Guide - that could provide the answer you need. If you would like to talk to us about sizes, phone us on 01874 623613 and we will be happy to help. We're experienced in working out which sizes suit our customers!

Q. I would like some shoes/boots but am unsure of my size - what should I do?

A. Telephone or e-mail us, or - even better - call at the shop in Brecon. Our stylish and comfortable Anatomic Gel shoes and boots are best-sellers. If you have bought Anatomic Gel footwear before, you probably know what size you need. If not, we recommend that you visit the shop, as different shoes have different fittings. Personal appointments can be made out-of-hours to suit you.

Q. Do you sell gift vouchers?

A. Yes we do. Customers often like to buy gift vouchers for friends or family members. You can buy a gift voucher for any amount. It can be sent to you or to an alternative address. Gift vouchers can be used for up to 2 years after the date of purchase. They can be redeemed by post or at the shop in Brecon.

Q. What are your delivery charges?

A. Delivery charges for online shop orders are calculated by total value of your purchases and include VAT as per HMRC requirements. UK rates are listed in Payment, Delivery, and Returns. Delivery charges for elsewhere, including Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia are shown at checkout before you confirm your order. Please contact us if you have any queries about this. Parcels are usually sent by Royal Mail post.

Q. Can I have my order delivered to a different address?

A. Yes, as long as it is within the UK.

Q. Do I need to register on this website?

A. No. Just order online, or contact us (by e-mail, by phone, or by post, or call at the shop in Brecon) with your order. If you would like to register, you can do so - it means you can save time when ordering again. Any details you give are safe and secure and are never passed on.

Q. How can I pay?

A. Most customers pay for online orders by debit card or credit card. Other options are available at checkout. For other orders, please discuss payment options with us when you place your order.

Q. Do you ship outside the UK?

A. Yes, we ship to many countries including most of Europe, and USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Dispatch costs are calculated according to the value of your order and are shown at checkout before you confirm your order. If you live in a country not recognised by our online ordering system, contact us to see if we can deliver to you.

Q. Do you dispatch to BFPO addresses - and is this VAT-free?

Yes, we are pleased to dispatch to BFPO addresses. Providing the address is in the correct BFPO format, and you meet the tax-exemption requirements, orders to BFPO addresses are charged at our normal UK P&P rate, and are eligible to have the UK VAT charge removed. See our BFPO - How to order page for details. BFPO addresses in the Europen Union require tax-exemption form 15(10) to be completed and sent to us before your order can be dispatched VAT-free. See our sample 15(10) tax exemption form.

Q. Do you sell to business customers?

A. Yes. For example, we can provide large orders of items such as seersucker tablecloths and napkins, feather bolster pillows, cotton roller towels, and non slip mats to hotels and B&Bs. We also welcome orders from rest homes, care home, and nursing homes for large orders such as H J Hall Softop socks (which are ideal smart and comfortable socks for those with diabetes or circulation problems). Contact us by phone or e-mail for details, or visit the shop in Brecon.

Q. What is your policy on returns?

A. We hope you will be delighted with your purchase, but if you think there is a problem with an item you have ordered, please contact us first to discuss the problem. We comply with the Distance Selling Regulations. You may cancel the contract within seven working days from the day after delivery. Contact us to tell us you are returning an item, return it to us in its original unused condition and packaging, and we will then refund the purchase price. Return postage costs are at your expense and we advise using a recorded delivery service with adequate insurance. If you change your mind AFTER the normal returns period, we will - for the following 14 days and as a gesture of goodwill - give you a credit note to the value of the returned goods (P&P excluded). Please follow the above instructions for returning the item(s). Items ordered or made especially for you at your request (e.g. made to measure clothes, tablecloths cut to your requested size) may not be returned unless faulty or damaged on delivery. All of us want you to be happy with your purchase.

Q. What do you do with my personal information?

A. We collect only the basic personal contact details required to process your order. Personal information received from you is kept confidential and used solely for internal purposes at our business. We do not release your contact details to any outside party. If you give your permission, we may keep you updated by e-mail with occasional news from our shop. You can then opt out of this at any time. If personal details are needed for made to measure items we will discuss this with you first.

Q. Will you bombard me with e-mails?

A. No. We will not send you anything you do not want. If you agree, we will put you on our e-mail list to receive a Christmas message. We have not sentout other messages, but there is the possibility we might in the future. You can opt out of this at any time.
